Dana’s smart electro-magnetic actuator (EMA) is a super-fast actuating disconnect designed specifically for ultra-high-performance vehicles.
This device can integrate position-sensing electronics and significantly reduce complexities by eliminating the need for an oil accumulator, reservoir, motor, pump, pipes, and more. It also delivers a more seamless and friction-free means of actuation by relying on magnetic force to engage or disengage the system vs. having a fork slide up and down a sleeve. Additionally, the EMA has seen significant improvements in terms of energy loss compared to hydraulic systems, helping improve fuel economy for conventional and electrified applications alike.
