    • Why Electrify with Dana
    • Software and Controls

Dana has more than 30 years of expertise and experience in managing the manufacturing of embedded controllers for series production, for both the OpenECU™ range of products as well as for products designed to meet a specific customer need.

Expertise includes design engineering, test development, product cost optimization, component supply chain & global manufacturing supply base management, and can provide the resources necessary to manage a project through design, new product introduction, and volume production. Our capabilities cover all aspects of managing safety critical ECU production from supplier selection, process validation, PPAP, to in-process tool creation and specification.

Dana’s OpenECUTM platform is ideal for research and prototyping all aspects of vehicle control, and then re-using the same proven hardware for low to intermediate volume production. The MATLAB®/Simulink® compatible software development toolchain makes it particularly easy to implement gateway functions for integrating components originally designed for disparate applications.

    EV Control Strategies

    EV Control Strategies

Based upon many years of project experience, the Dana team has developed a template model for electric vehicle control that can be used as a baseline for further development. Many of the core EV control features are included in the Simulink model, which can be licensed as source code, or delivered as part of a full system development.

Interface EVSE with Combined Charging System (CCS) using OpenECU™ M560 or M580

    Case Study

Interface EVSE with Combined Charging System (CCS) using OpenECU™ M560 or M580

DIN 70121 is one of the first standards that was developed to regulate the EV-EVSE interface.  However, it lacked some features such as Transport Layer Security. Later, other standards, such as ISO 15118 and SAE standards were developed based on DIN 70121 to regulate secure charging requirements in an EV-EVSE interface. Whereas SAE standards are more favorable in North America, ISO 15118 is the preferred standard in Europe. Both SAE J2847-2 and ISO 15118-2 have adopted the Power-Line Communication (PLC) physical layer for communications between EV and EVSE, however, there are some differences in the datalink layers of these two protocols.

Design of Custom Electric Park Brake (EPB) Solution

An OEM developing Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle (HEV) identified the need for a new Electric Park Brake (EPB) solution for its next generation of production vehicles. Dana was selected to deliver an EPB ECU solution leveraging OpenECU™ platform. Dana was responsible for ECU hardware development, design and integration of the application software using our rapid prototyping OpenECU software platform.
